There were no successful decodes at this power level.

As expected, WOLF made its best attempt right around sunup after the 
static subsided.  It found your signal but was unable to gather up 
enough energy to bring out the message.  One has to feel that with 
some tweaking of the settings it might have worked.  I'm not sure I 
have the optimum integration period.  If we assume 1 part per billion 
frequency offset between Rx, Tx, at 137.45 Khz it would take one hour 
to produce a 180-degree phase shift.  With BPSK MS100 it only takes 
+/- 90 degrees to reach the point where adding in older data results 
in more harm than benefit: half an hour or about 19 WOLF frames.  On 
the other hand it would appear the QSB bright-ups early in the 
evening are quite short (less than half an hour), so a shorter 
integration time would be beneficial as it would be less likely to 
contaminate the coherent integration with extraneous noise.  The 
fixed integrate-and-dump blocks in WOLF's current implementation are 
troublesome because the odds of having a full integration period 
coincide optimally with when the SNR peaks are not 
favorable.  Indeed, I got up in the middle of the night to restart 
WOLF in the middle of a block, trying to shift the end of the last 
3168-second block so it would more favorably overlap the expected SNR 
enhancement around dawn.  I didn't guess all that well on the timing, 
hi!  IMO, the best strategy for making sure you get optimum overlap 
is to use a moving or sliding average instead of a fixed 
integrate-and-dump average.  That's what we did with COHERENT/AFRICA 
and it worked well.

In Stewart's early notes on WOLF he envisioned using the reference 
channel for something more than just establishing 
synchronization.  One thing we might want to try is selectively 
including past frames: keep the ones which improve SNR for the 
frequency we're trying to receive and throw away the others.  Another 
thing is to track the duration of QSB bright-ups for the signal of 
interest and dynamically adjust a sliding average interval for 
optimum enhancement.

Great test, thanks again.  Now I'm kicking myself for not recording 
the overnight run so I'd have something to play with today, hi!

P.S.  In the last block below (covering the dawn enhancement), 
interesting how WOLF prefers a different jm-index value at each end 
of the brightup period.  Any thoughts on why that happens?
