HI

Certainly when at sea I remember being amazed one voyage from Panama Canal
to Australia with the distance that west coast USA MW stations could be
heard. That would have been circa 1980

Cheers!

Clive

Hello the list,

Has anyone anywhere EVER picked up a LW BC station using a portable
receiver ?
(If you live in Europe near LW stations you are excused from this
discussion!)

I've tried for 30+ years with no success and have concluded that its
impossible.
However Colin on www.dxer.ca web page claims he picks up trans-pacific
stations with a portable.

Hi Warren,
I think using one of those good-quality 'RDF' portable receivers would
bring in a couple
of those European LW broadcasters at night near the East Coast at least.
Some of those RDF portables have excellent sensitivity on LW, some have
variable
RF gain controls. Would one of those qualify as a
'portable' receiver? It's not quite the same as something like a Sony 2010
but it is a
portable radio that runs on batteries and they can be used as
'entertainment' radios also!
