Thanks Chris. I recently built a RDT e-probe and have been comparing it
to other antennas. So far the mini-whip's performance on LF has not
been as good as my LF xmit antenna or a random length triangular loop in
the woods about 400 feet from the shack. That's kind of what I expected
though considering the mini-whip's location. I have it on 30 feet of
mast beside the house. It is about 20 feet from a 100 foot tower and
about the same distance from the nearest trees. Trees are a combination
of pine and primarily oak that are in the 70+ foot tall range. I know
the mini-whip needs to be above nearby objects but that will be
difficult in my situation. I have considered mounting it out the top of
the tower, out the top of a suitable nearby tree or a tree some distance
from the house. The tower takes lightning hits regularly per my nearest
neighbor who has a good view of the copper 6 meter J-pole I have out the
top. The J-pole hasn't been used in years but it's working well as a
lightning rod. I know the mini-whip wont last long mounted on the tower
and considering the effort to put it up I doubt that I will.
