The Grundig G3 has very mixed reviews (to put it mildly), see:
http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/8447

 I have several Grundigs, a G6, Satellite 650 and the Eton E1 and E5.
The old Satellit 650 is by far the best of the lot and by far the most expensive.
When you buy a cheap portable ( less than $300) expect images, intermod, poor selectivity and terrible performance at LF.
Even the very best portables are marginal on LF, there is no getting around the need for a decent antenna, a good front end, and good crystal filters!

The most I ever use a portable for on LF is in the shack (or maybe down the street) to see if a transmitter is putting out on a given frequency, but there are much better tools for that (spectrum analyzer).

Yes, the G5 is only available at some stores. It's a discontinued item. I
found only one out of the three stores within 40 miles of my QTH.

The G3 is a more modern product with synchronous AM detection, selectable
sideband reception, etc. But as I told the clerk at the store where I
bought mine, I'll be using it out in the field...literally. If I'm going to
risk dropping a radio in the mud, I'd rather it be the $40 unit than the
$150 one. :)
