I love to experiment. Some of you may find this one interesting.
After reading about a Back to Back Passive Diode Clipper on the
RSGB reflector, I decided to try one out for myself. It Works!!!
I have uploaded photos of the Clipper circuit, and my Audio Filter
to: http://webpages.charter.net/ku4xr/
You can view the 2 photos, and listen to the sample audio file
of how the Audio Clipper/Limiter with high frequency roll off works.
The MP3 audio file is a sample of the static noise here tonite.
standard 2.4 KHz filter, no Noise Blanker, S-9 +20dB static crashes.
First 10 seconds is pure static, 10 to 20 seconds, is with diodes
connected, 21 to 33 is with Hi Roll off cap connected, and 33 to 42
seconds is volume adjusted to full clipped level for whatever
program you like to use for QRSS. There is no doubt about the
difference the clipper, and roll off cap makes in the static crashes
as you will hear.
Remember; it's an experiment, and I have been having fun with it,
and have been surprised at how well it works. The proof in the
pudding ??? I even tried it with WSPR, adjusted for heavy clipping,
and got perfect decodes Everytime, with the waterfall showing the
visible distortion.
Hope you will find this some not too boring static months reading.
