Hi all:
Rambling thoughts; On HF, everyband depends on at least a minimum
of a General class license, and then finding a clear frequency in
the General portion. Antenna resonance may be a factor unless everyone
uses a matcher. 40 meters is very prone to propagational fluctuations,
You'll be in contact one minute, then the band will change, and whoosh
QSO over. 80 meters would give better wide regional coverage, but is
usually jam packed, and daylight hours are a big issue as to when the
band will be open into specific geographical areas, summer static
would hurt too. 160 meters would be I think a great band of choise,
but way too many issues to have to overcome. The entire band is open
to General class, Frequencies could be found, but antenna resonance
would be a problem for some, myself included. I don't have a matcher
for 160 meters, and my antenna is tuned for the part of the band I
use the most. Communications are dependent on darkness between most
all stations, and summertime static pratically demands the use of
linear amplifiers to overcome the static, and the adjacent frequency
QRM from the Hi-Power Ops talking to their buddies 10 miles away.
There is an option that hasn't been mentioned; " ECHOLINK "
An Echolink net could be setup, and any license class could join in.
AND;;; the net audio could be retransmitted over HF. with periodic
announcements telling that the net originates over echolink node # ??
The HF station retransmitting the net audio need only to ID every
10 minutes, and maybe give a brief description of what is being heard.
