Todd,

I still use KØLR's DOS keyer with a junk 386 PC.

Just never had a need to try anything else.

Hi Dex,
Thanks for your note and suggestion on using KØLR's DOS keyer
program software for a QRSS beacon keyer.

I think it will be easier for me to use the newer ON7YD program now
that I know how to work around the way the program rounds off the repeat
function to the next even minute. One can add text or simply type in the
call several times so it will fill up a time block just short of an even
minute. Then
the repeat delay can be only a few seconds for a faster beacon speed like
QRSS3.

I wrote to Rik ON7YD asking him why his program does rounds off the repeat
to the next even minute and he said
he included that feature so if the sender's computer was synchronized to
GPS or NIST time then the message would always start at the top of the
minute which might be useful for weak signal work.

He said he has noted my request and will try to implement it in the next
version of his QRS software so if someone is running a faster beacon like
QRSS3 or even QRSS1 it will repeat a simple call immediately like a normal
beacon. If anyone hasn't tried it yet his program does
have a lot of useful features and the time delay is of no consequence if
anyone is running a very slow beacon like QRSS30 or QRSS60. In fact someone
might want to extend the time delay for the beacon repeat to preserve the
continuity at very slow speeds. Rik's program allows you to set the delay up
to several minutes or longer if wanted.
