Hi Andy, Paul, Steve,

Thanks for the replies....some good info to try.  The comment that "more isn't necessarily better" was very much
the case I noticed last night.  I finally got around to down-loading and installing a PSK31 program for my MAC,
and I was trying it out with my IC-735 on 40 meters.  Not wanting to go to the trouble of making up a genuine
interface, I used the rx audio from the phones jack to feed the line-input on the MAC.  I got very solid decodes
with nothing more than the very slightest indication on the program's input level indicator, even though I had
everything pretty much cranked to max in the signal chain.  I built a proper interface this morning and now I've
lots of signal to play with and can back off on the gain to more sensible settings.
