Well omly one 30 min. outage today. I respect the Utility crews
for being in this stuff, to do their job. I finally finished
getting the PC set up and running on XP-PRO, all the radio
software works flawlessly, and even to my surprise, better than
on Win98SE; " So Far !! " I've got a lot of " Tweakin " to do
to XP's running processes, basically turning off all the un-needed
processes running in the backgroud. That is one feature that
Win98SE didn't have, so that's a good thing.
Paul; I have copies of Ubuntu, and Knoppix, I have played around
with them, but not seriously given them a try, so I can't give a
fair judgement on Linux, vs. Windows ( any core ), Never tried a
MAC at all. The biggest problem with Linux in the past, was
getting drivers for your hardware. I don't think that is much of
a problem now. The Linux community has become pretty solid, and
strong, and can now compete with Windows, or MAC.
On Radio now;; Signals on 600 meters seem very good tonite,
despite my HF antenna swagging heavily, and covered with a 1/4'
of ice. The lowFER antenna was the one that took the hit, which
you can understand why with all the top-hat wires, and ropes to
catch the ice.
Well enough on this drop in; time to do a little tweakin now.
