Gentlemen:
First, I want to tell all of you how much I appreciate your
knowledge, and experiences; and willingness to take the time
to share them. I have learned to save email replies to a folder
for extra reading, and future references. ( thanks Warren - K2ORS
one of your replies quite a while back got me in that habit now ).

Another simple thing to try is to unplug the power cord on any
Ethernet routers you might have. These are notoriously noisy.
I don't know how to eliminate any noise you find, but at least
you might find a source.

Hey Bob; Been there, and done that. I replaced the dinky little
switching supply that came with it, with a good ole wallwart.
That problem was solved. Thanks for the input.

A small AM hand held radio makes a great noise sniffer...
If you want more definition, make a small e-probe and couple
it to the radio. then search around...
TNX from Dave @ /17
Thanks Dave::: Most everyone seems to point to the power supply
as the real culprit, and comments from Charles Wenzel on the
Part-15 yahoo list suggests malfunctions in the power supply
electronics. I took the coax jumper on my TS450S and ran it
around the PC, and sure enough, the noise was strongest when in
close proximity to the power supply. Forgive me while I whimper
for a moment; This is a new ORION 500 watt Industrial supply,
twaren't cheap neethur !! I have some pulled supplies I'll try
swapping out to see what happens. If things improve; I'll try
the " beefing up " of the ORION supply to see if I can quieten
it down. The spare supplies are low wattage ( 230 watts ) but
can probably handle the basic load on the PC.

Shielded power cords are available - you probably
have several of them.
Find the drawer full of cords at work or a shop.
73,
Pat /6
Well Pat you are right; I started going over every power cord
I have on hand here at the radio station, and I found 5 cords
that are printed as " Shielded " on the jacket. So !! some
power cord swapping tonite on the PC's thruout the house, and,
If it dosen't have one already, The new HDTV set gets one too.
May not help, certainly won't hurt.

Hi Andy (and the group),
I had a similar problem with a PC - that is, the noises from the
computer's internal circuity causing problems (screen updates, etc.) and
in that case, simply tightening the screws in side the power supply
fixed the majority of it.
*****
As for that PC from which I was hearing "mouse noises" and screen-update
garbage, my bonding the rear panel of the motherboard to the rear panel
of the case fixed that as I mentioned in a previous email. I might add
to that that often, motherboard cases have a very thin "snap-in" rear
panel that you choose to match the connector layout of the motherboard
and sometimes it's necessary to solder these to the case in a few places
to hold them in as well and to guarantee that they make electrical
connection to the case.
73,
Clint
Once again; Thanks Clint for the info. You are pretty much describing
my PC. I'll try tightening screws, especially in the power supply,
and some solder bonding on the case.
Time to head home now, 73 to everyone, and have a great evening :::
