First freq counter I bult was a Radio Shack pc board/kit. Shack
wanted about $85 dollars for the components to finish it. I bought all
the IC's, display, ect for $16 from Jamelco. Still it was an
interesting project. On one of my homebrew qrp rigs I have a RS 274-388
dial assembly, clear plastic front with silver metal scale. Dont
remember this but I found it nos at a hamfest flea market.

Back in '92 I designed a 80/40 meter DC receiver( The Explorer ) and
wrote it up in 73 magazine. Between the time I submitted the article
and publication Radio Shack discontinued the TDA7000 chip it used.
Fortunately DC electronics also stocked them.

Remember the free battery card? I used to get a free 9v battery every month.

Quoting Eric Smith :
No kidding. I actually worked at one when I was a teenager, and that's
where I learned to use a logic probe and an oscilloscope, and to
program in assembly language. Back then they sold ALL KINDS of logic
chips -- actual 74 series TTL, and the then new CMOS. They had
everything.

But then you could still by Heathkits at that time too.

Yes, those were the days.
