Pretty much the same thing here too. LW broadcasters were in
there, down a little from Thurs. night. " MP " in there, but
faded around 1:30am ( 06:30 UTC ) and only spotty reception
after that. saw a couple of very weak traces from " WMS "
My opinion ::: Yes ! Solar activity, or the lack thereof
affects radio communications at any frequency to some extent.
Enhancing, or degrading it. *** take a flashlight, and shine
the light beam into a mirror. What happens to the light beam ??
It is deflected by the mirror, and focused at a point depending
on the angle that the light beam hits the mirror at. Slightly
tilt, or turn the mirror, and what happens to the light beam ??
The deflection angle changes and focuses the light beam to a
different point. Thirdly; smoke, or fog the mirror and what
happens to the light beam ?? Its energy is absorbed, either
partially, or completely depending on the density of the
shading on the mirror, resulting in either a very weak reflection
of the light beam, or no reflection at all.
Think of the ionesphere as the mirror, and radio signals as the
light beam. The intensity of the radiated signal is a constant
for the most part, however the Ionesphere is the variable in
the equation. moving, shifting, or tilting of the ionespheric
layer, affects the deflection angle of the radio signal, and
its point of focus on the earth. A very small change in the
height of the layer, its position relative to the transmitting
station, will affect the deflection point, and angle of the
signal. Changes in Solar activity causing a densing, or
thickening affect of the Ionespheric layers will be like the
smokey, or fogged up mirror, absorbing a part, or all of the
signal energy.
Different layers affect different bands of frequencies, AND !!
in different ways.
My thoughts on the subject; ** 73 **
