You can Google it for more info but it is an ocean circulation pattern of
warm water that keeps western Europe and to some extent eastern USA warmer
in the winter.
The Great Conveyor Belt can suddenly shut off with no prediction (in fact,
it wasn't even known about 20 years ago) and cause horrible winters in those
areas. Supposedly the Great Conveyor Belt shut down in the early 1300's,
causing the Little Ice Age of that century. It's been speculated that
"global warming" can cause the Great Conveyor Belt to turn off again,
plunging western Europe and possibly eastern USA into another Little Ice
Age.
