Jay and I spent last evening playing with FLDIGI, a sound-card digital
mode program that can be run on Windows or Linux platforms. See:
http://www.w1hkj.com/Fldigi.html
It has some slow-speed versions of MFSK, as well as a newer mode called
THOR. Both of these modes have forward error correction, and are well
suited for environments with fades and static crashes.
XGR/3 will be on 510.500 kHz tonight starting at 0000Z in THOR 8 mode.
Jay may do a run of his own, and we may try a QSO later. Reports of how
these modes handle deep fades would be appreciated. We are particularly
curious about how quickly copy is restored.
