[Lowfer] U.S. Loran-C to end by October 1

Thanks John, I noticed that LORAN C was still on after the Jan 4 date so I called the USCG NAVCEN which oversees LORAN - they said "no comment" and referred me to a public affairs office of Homeland Security in Washington, D.C. . I called Homeland Security and left a voice mail which so far has not been returned.

The Coast Guard has today published two articles in the Federal Register. They state that Loran-C is not needed as a backup to GPS or for any other Federal requirement, and that they intend to begin shutting down Loran-C operations on Feb. 8, with completion by October 1, 2010.
