Thanks John;

Makes sense, very close spaced wires; high capacitance, forgot that.

Got my wiring scheme wrong too. wire #1 is open around loop, then 
connects to #2 to continue the loop, which connects to #3. #3 to #4,
and so on 39 connects to #40 to complete the loop. #1 and #40 are
the connection points for the feedline.

Lots of resistance too with the small wire.

Mikes loop looks pretty nice, AND !! simple. Looks like a vertical
stacked winding. What benefit does that provide over the wires 
being side by side ??
