Disappointing reception of XES here in NE IL, like last night's JASON 
transmissions. Nothing was seen from HELL and the first high-power WOLF 
decode pass took 21 minutes just to find the right frequency and 25 
minutes to first correct decode. A second pass took 15 minutes to find 
the right frequency and 26 minutes to first correct decode. A WSPR break 
was then made. WE2XGR/2 and /6 were strong as usual on 511.5 kHz (-2 and 
+3 dB SNR, respectively). The former was of particular interest since 
the path to /2 isn't much different than the path to XES and /2 was 
"only" transmitting 10W ERP. Moving the dial on 502.4 kHz USB yielded 
the other two active US stations: WD2XSH/12 and /17. /17 is also a very 
similar path to XES and it was not strong here running 10W ERP (it 
usually isn't) but I think that's because /17 uses an antenna directive 
to the east. Retuning to 137 kHz WOLF, the third pass found the right 
frequency in 3 minutes and decoded correctly in 5 minutes. Perhaps a bit 
of neighborly TV QRM bothered the first pass, but it was gone by the 
second pass which didn't go well either. Propagation sure can be erratic!
