Conditions on Xmas Eve were quite good here in Ontario Canada. Even
though I'm over 1000 Km from the east coast, the SNR was adequate to
copy the entire message with some confidence. Setup was a 30 x 20
foot rectangular loop favoring N/S tuned for 17.2 Khz into a 10 dB
pre-amp driving a 150-ft buried cable to the shack. Another 10 dB or
so gain in the shack then into the line input of a sound card. In
hindsight I should have taken more analog gain before the sound
card. Sample rate was 44100 s/s, down-converted to 800 Hz (150 Hz
BW) using DSP amd decimated to 11025 s/s. I used some close-in
clipping to get rid of the static crashes. There was some 60-Hz buzz
on the tone but that could be removed with a comb filter. Thanks to
