    The 50' wire attached to the preamp on the ground will give you far
better performance.  Plus, it lets you electrically ground end of the coax
feedline at the preamp, which reduces the interference and noise that you
might otherwise experience with the cable going up to the preamp mounted on
the 48' mast.  That interference and noise could, of course, be greatly
reduced by placing a suitable ferrite bead along the coax right at the
preamp enclosure, but the grounding is still better overall.
