Hi Dex, Lowfers,
I thought that I should share this trick when trying to tune a loop receiving antenna that's a long way from your rig.
My method uses a 70 cm transceiver in the shack and a 70 cm HT out at the antenna. Choose a quiet frequency
on the 70 cm rigs and place the mic of the base unit near to the speaker of the LF receiver with a rubber band
around the mic PTT to keep it sending. Take the hand-held out to the antenna and while listening to it, tune
the loop's capacitor for a peak in the noise of the LF receiver. You can use a weak signal if one is handy or
produce your own with a signal generator to aid in the tuning to get even better results for tuning.
