Hi Bill, Lowfers,

All of the ovens that I've taken apart had one end of the diode going to chassis, which makes sense seeing as
the anode of the magnetron is also solidly connected to the chassis, along with one end of the HV secondary.
I can see what your concern is though, should the ground lead go open or if someone has installed a three
prong receptacle in an outlet box with no ground wire (remember knob & tube?)
