[Lowfer] dead bands

With the finally increasing activity of Cycle 24, all the lower
frequencies will begin to degrade for long distance paths.
This will maybe push the low power ( Part-15 ) operators into
the challenge of improving the radiation efficiency of their
transmit antennas. Up to this point, you could just about throw
a wire out of a window on the end of a cane pole and get a signal
out hundreds of miles, ( Gee, was there somebody who did that ?? )
Part-15 Ops don't have the luxury of turning on the big Leen-ee-r,
so great effort goes into squeezing every MilliOHM of Rrad from the
radiator system. I remember reading a post from John A. - W1TAG
about going for weeks at a time without even a hint of long distance
propagation. The Class " D " Switching type PA using the Complimentary
pair transistors ( 2N2907A/2N2222A ) gives a very good efficiency
in its output, So the challenge will start to focus on reducing any
losses to a minimum in the coils, and filters, and increasing the
efficiency of the antenna. Jay - W1VD told me awhile back when I was
trying to improve the antenna for " XR " - " Every OHM counts "
drop one in the loss area, or gain one in the radiation area, and
it will make a difference. Plus he told me to get the extra 5 feet
in antenna height above ground if I could, and it would make a
noticable difference in signal at a distance. My antenna project
to get that height was definitely worth the effort.

Every Ounce Counts !!!  73 guys :::
