Hi Mike take care lowfer antennas do not scale well from 160 and 80 metres
in all cases, mainly due to ground and environmental conditions. I doubt it
will work any better than a vertcal of the same length. Failing that put all
the inductance at the top just under the top-hat (and take no notice of
those who tell you it wont work it does see my web site on spiral
top-loads.) and get the maximum current flowing on the whole of the
vertical, it will also reduce envirnmental losses to nearby building and
vegetation. HB9ASB used a continuously loaded vertical on 136kHz about 8
years ago, it worked but there was nothing really to compare it with he had
many nearby trees.

One major problem with continuously loaded aerial is they increase the
capacity of the radiating section (the vertical) to ground and the nearby
objects....this just means increased loss, because it diverts current before
it has passed through the whole of the available radiation resistance.
Unfortnately the only wat to test it is to errect a field strength measuring
device about 1/2 maile away and measure two antennas with the same power
input. In the end size wins :-))

Best wishes
