Jim just one or two stations have had good enough signals so far this season
to get a capture . My signal has not been strong enough for a capture yet .
Do you have any hams in the area that can have a listen ? I think all of the
newer rigs with general coverage receivers will go down there and some of
them do pretty decent . I have available at two different locations both at
about 20 miles from me , both are running G5RV antennas , one uses an
FT-857D and the other uses an FT-897D and both hear my beacon fine , so I
know I am getting a signal out , the band is just not cooperating yet .
I could hear MO , when he was on with just the HF rig and G5RV . Never
checked the exact distance , but must be about 60 miles and I could copy him
24/7 with that setup .
I have barely lost any leaves off of any of my trees here .
Most of us take our beacons off the air from time to time for a day or two
or the entire weekend and listen for other beacons .
Paul and I have tried it many times , but we are just close enough to each
other and just far enough from each other , that we have never captured each
other .
If I can find the time this weekend , I'll try and take my beacon down and
have a listen for you and Andy and the others . I'll park one receiver on
your frequency and let it run 24 hours a day . Sometimes we will get a
really odd capture at an unexpected time .
