Hi Andy,
Im doing just that; using Spectrum Lab as a vlf receiver. It takes some
playing around to get it figured out. The best thing and easiest thing you
can do is go to Lyles website :http://www.nutstreet.net/k0lr/ , and read his
excellent article :" A Lowfer Receiver Using a Software IF. He has a few
user setting files that you can cut and paste into the Spectrum Lab
configuration files and it will setup automatica;ly.
Basically if you want to listen to anything up to 24 khz ,you can use the
SDQ1 configuration. I f , like me; you want to monitor the 185khz watering
hole , you ll need to build a down converter.Lyles article has one and I
built it .It works nice with my single turn loop and pre-amp.
I happened to have a 170 khz rock here so I used that .
185300 hz - 170000hz = 15300 hz.Now your right in the usable audio range
of Spectrum Lab .
I wont get too detailed. Ill let you read Lyles article. Ive been using
mine about 3 weeks now.Much better than a receiver and upconverter. Much
more stable.I have been copying MP all day and night for last week. I even
copied XR Wednesday night but I had the settings too bright and it wasnt a
nice picture to send ya.
Good Luck !
