Been doing some reading on various items. Copper Sulphate is
very toxic, Didn't know that till now. As Mike pointed out,
the Epsom Salts, or any salts are going to be corrosive.
However; Bentonite is used by many municipal utility companies
to " Treat " a hole where a ground rod will be placed,
especially in very non-conductive soil. Bentonite is a main
ingredient in Clumping cat litter. Its usefulness is in the
fact that when it gets wet, it expands tremendously to form a
tight seal, and absorbs moisture, which from the ground rod
standpoint is exactly what the utility companies need. The
rod is always damp and in tight contact with the moisture which
itself is a natural conductor.
Kurt makes the valid point that for any treatment to work as
intended; the hole needs to be treated first, and then drive
the rod in. Of course the utility companies have nice, big
drills to do just that.
