Lee, Others, on the E-Probe Construction...
Not to worry on exposed pvc pipe. I've been a fan of it for several years and have not seen it fall apart or the like, as, say, that common poly rope (yellow) does after 2 years in sun. For support lines it's weedeater, tuff to beat.
I'm also big on the manhattan method of pcb construction. Not interested in 'pretty looks,' just good and easy construction. But beware, don't/avoide sawing pcb (fiberglass dust). I use 16"" sheetmetal shears - Carefull with the fingers. Before cutting clean the foil to ready for soldering. Use Super Glue for bonding (small drop will do).
E-probe should be up high, above most/many/all surrounding 'conductive' objects (like trees w/ leaves). Keep metal away from it. A pvc pipe mast is the thing. But that could extend from a metal mast.
Don't spend the bucks on the high-end x-sister, as a j-310 will work just fine, but keep the volts up, say 18-20DC.
While testing the new probe, check it out on a NDB, ideally several of them, before looking for a fractional watt LowFER!!
But my guess would be MP might be yer first good signal, oh, forgot, EAR toooo.
Cheers fellows -- Peter who's consumed with Win XP reinstall matters.

I read over the articles sent to me by Steve Ratzlaff on the Mini Whip. It
sure looks inexpensive enough and looks like a fast build.
I have a couple questions you gentlemen could answer:
