Hey all:
I'm in the parts procurement mode now, and trying to do it
the old fashioned way; What's In The Junkbox ??? I have an
LM386 to amplify the soundcard output, I found a 74HC14 -
Hex Schmitt Trigger chip on an old satellite rcvr board to
square up the USB filter output. But there is one stage
that I'm still in a small quandary on what the best - simple
circuit will be to accomplish the purpose. I need to amplify
the USB filter output up to a level suffucient to drive the
Schmitt trigger. At first I was thinking Op-Amps, but none
that I have are of a BW more than 3 MHz, the 4558D which is
electrically the same as the 741 Op-Amp. And I can't bring
myself to spend $ 7.00 to order a .48 cent chip. Also, I've
never fooled with Op-Amps before, but it appears from the
reading I'm doing that you need a dual power supply, + & -
voltages. NEXT; I wondered about the LM386 but since this
will be RF at 185.+++ KHz, and the LM386 is for audio, I
don't think it will work. In my reading though, I did notice
that the LM386 can be configured as a Square Wave Generator,
but I think that's a moot point. OK !! Back to what's on hand.
I have Boo-Koo's of small signal transistors. What type of
one or two transistor circuit will do the job ?? Building it
from what I have; with a little bubble gum, and bailing wire
if needed. Thanks again for any pointers. I want everyone to
know that I have gained knowledge from this experiment so far.
