Well Hi Jim,
Believe this is your first calling at this List. Good to see your interest. First, have you tuned in any LowFERs yet?
That might a good first step. Let's say you have, then...now you're interested in getting a beacon of your own. Okay, there should be help here for that.
Given all that you wrote on antenna possibilities, I reco going with a tx loop.
Several on LF use loops successfully. The "standard" is considered a 50X50ft and 8 to 10ft off the deck. Heavy wire or tubing is reco'd. But no need for multiple wires. Another thing that you raised, using loading coils on a loop. That is Not needed. Raises system resistance. Resonamce is achieved with large value caps of high quality. Also the loop is efficently fed using a ferrite core inductiively coupled to the coax.
Several LowFERs have good sites showing particulars of their rigs and ants. I'm sure some will pop up for a look-see. Plus there is the LWCA group's Web site with helpful info. Hope you check that out. LWCA.org
Wait for additional posts here. Cheers, Peter

I'm hoping to have a LowFER beacon on from West Georgia in a couple of weeks.
Actually had hoped it would be on by now, but a bout with the flu and a lot
of travel with a new job has interfered with the fun.
