John was nice enough to stretch out the dit duration of his beacon R to
50 seconds so last night was spent in earnest trying to copy it. First,
beacon WMS was monitored to check conditions to Arkansas. Tuned to
187.490.3 kHz using QRSS-60, slow, copy was fine around 0500Z, 3/3/09.
Four versions of ARGO in mode QRSS-30, slow were then launched. The
center frequency of the first was 169.86 kHz and the rest were spaced
upward with center-to-center separations of 7 Hz. Around 0800Z the
automatic screen captures were examined and nothing definitive was
noted. Four ARGO screens were again launched and the 7 Hz spacings
continued upward to 169.908 kHz. About 1030Z the results were examined
and again nothing definitive was noted. Numerous in-and-out signal lines
were seen but none seemed to match the dit dash dit sequence with the
proper durations. As a final check on propagation to Arkansas, beacon
WMS was again monitored and it was still in there fine to 1200Z.

Hopefully other listeners had better luck. If not, there's always tomorrow.
