Garry did you make the copies with the SDR-IQ? I tried with my TS50. No
copy last night.
The lack of copy in summer is more from desense of the ARGO software than
from propagation. I have read
the avc action of the sdr software is not subject to lightning and other
atmospheric events. I will set up sdr
in the next few days and run side by side with the TS50.
It got up to 98 yesterday( 100 degrees in the garage ) so it is too hot to
be building antennas, but before fall
I must get a loop up.

Andy's note that beacon XR was QRV prompted me to point his way last
night and it paid off. The signal from XR on 184.3222 kHz was noted at
0330Z, 6/21/09 using ARGO QRSS-60, slow. It was detected occasionally
through 0650Z, but never strong enough to clearly make out the Morse code.
The 10' shielded loop receive antenna was then rotated toward Paul's
beacon, WMS. That came through a bit better on 187.4923 kHz, but still
only a few letters were discernible.
At 0910Z the radio was tuned to 189.9495 kHz and WEB was found coming
through very well with QRSS-30, slow. In fact, it was strong enough to
decode with just QRSS-3. The watering hole at 185.4 kHz was examined
briefly but only beacon MP was seen there. Beacon EAR was also coming in
well at that time. The morning was finished looking again at WEB, which
stayed strong until abruptly disappearing around 1100Z (sunrise here was
1018Z).
Thanks to all for keeping their beacons running over the summer. I know
beacon TAG is also up but didn't have time to look for it. Will look
tonight if the lightning racket stays down.
