[Lowfer] Listening in TN. - No sucess

Nearby storms can damage the final transistors in the beacon. I know I
lost about 5 pairs last year. Others report damage to active antennas
where the probe is connected to the gate of a FET. Doesn't have to be a
 direct hit only induction from
nearby strikes.
1 watt finals are connected to the filter and feedline with no step-up
transformer. An induced voltage can exceed the
breakdown voltage of the final device. A 100 watt tx would have a step-up
transformer to go from low impedance to 50
ohms. This would reduce the voltage on incoming hits, although the current
would be stepped up the devices are able to
handle more current.
I just keep a sack of spares.

Andy,

Does storms and lightening affect lowfer freq's more so than the rest? I
know it can generate more noise on receive. I notice you turn if off
frequently for storms. I know a lot of people do this and sometimes I do
 but
have most things grounded and TOOOO much to disconnect unless I put in
 some
kind of electrical main and then the coax situation would be a nightmare.
At any rate I am trying to get an understanding of your thought processes.

Is there something that blows more quickly? More susceptible to storms,
etc.
