[Lowfer] MP in mountain NH

Mitch,

Good to see you were off the air last night and the problem wasn't with the propagation of your signal..... so it may be a 24/7 copy up there in the winter season. Based on the limited transmitting I've done from that location, my sense is that the poor ground conductivity will not produce stellar communications on 185.3K, so it's simply the low noise (mainly a lack of noisy neighbors :) that makes the area good for receiving. The measured Rac values are lower compared to the same TX loop down here, but my theory is that good ground conductivity over wavelengths worth of surrounding territory is more responsible for radiating a good signal - and the conductivity should apply to receiving as well.

I'm about to test this idea with my first E/W pointing TX loop, although playing Robin Hood in the woods is all but impossible with knee-deep (+) snow (to become waist-deep on Wed). But look for some of the old 'Wm's come next weekend, should I be successful.

Will be staying in touch...

Bill

I took a look at the watering hole last night and your signal was impressive! Also followed it during the day until at least noon when I had to leave the cabin. Nothing tonight but I don't see you on the Grabulator either. Are you sending right now? Bill (back in Andover, MA)
Thanks for the report Bill - sorry I was late replying - I was doing some NDB listening and shut down for
the evening - and then forgot to switch back on !!!!! I know that is frustrating for the guys listening
for a signal - and then wondering if it's their problem or the propagation.

We're back on now -

It sounds like you have a nice receiving location in the mountains.

Using an "Ashlock loop" here - E-W orientation -

Thanks agn

Mitch
