It could be OK for cw speed but it isnt calibrated well enough 
for anything over that,, there are accessories for external antennas
but it auto switches to the loop below ( ? ) 2 Mhz,, there is an
external wire antenna that has a jack and can be added but dont expect
great results it wont hold up against a radio to be used with an external
antenna
the thing really sounds great on FM using headphones
overall a nice carry on radio
and Mel wanted one so it must be good

the 1103 tunes to 100 K and can be 'tricked" to go lower but  
looses any selectivity and you loose the use of the loop stick antenna  
can copy/7 right now although he is 80 Db over background  
nice little monitor and small to take along
