Alan thanks for the information. Your comments about the summertime
propagation are correct, I've heard
Bill Bowers and others remark that it is not uncommon to hear great
distances in mid summer. Bill said he would
be working and look up at the ARGO screen and someone would pop in
unexpectedly.
Last summer a mole chewed the power cable(rg59) to my beacon. I didnot
repair it utill sept and started getting
reports immediately. Conventional wisdom says the season doesnt start
until late Oct or Nov. This year I plan to
leave mine on and maintained during the summer. We'll see.
Thunderstorms seem to be the biggest factor when using ARGO, if there is
any lightning in the propagation area
the reception is desensed. With more beacons on and more listening we may
find propagation is better than we
thought. I live in the southern USA where summer storms are frequent.
Any comments from the group? I have not been involved but a short time
lets hear from others who have been at
it longer.
