I've used quite a few different antennas here over the years including e probes, 6' box loop, 10' 14
turn Octoloop, large shielded single turn coax loops (both tuned and broadband), beverage (not long
enough) and loop/vertical combinations. The large K9AY is the clear winner in terms of effectiveness
if you're interested in maximizing reception in a given direction. Collecting enough signal on LF
and MF with even moderate sized antennas is seldom a problem. The bigger issue is the reduction of
interfering signals and static in the undesired directions. Basically you're improving the
signal/noise by lowering the interference and noise.
