Hi Brian,
Yeah, likely you got the dead horse part of it right :=)

This applies to Part-15 vertical antennas. Consensus over the years for verticals is Top Hat above all. Be it a wire or screen of wire and poles. A capacity hat is a must. That's what raises the current lobe higher for the already too short vertical.

The "hat" can take the form or a wire T or a regular capacity hat, If the later, perimeter wires are most helpful for added capacity, where they approximate a disk.

Not familiar with anyone on LF having a cage type.

Another option with much practical application is the loop. 1750M ops have been using a 50ft SQ configuration. But there is the directivity factor to consider. MP is successfully using a loop. A look at 185.301KHz is some proof it works!

Another consideration with a vertical is a proper ground screen. Much effort required there. Not usually needed with a loop.

I have been doing research on a LOWFER transmit antenna. From what I have read, here are the options I am looking at, and would like your comments and suggestions.

1. A 50' base loaded vertical

2. A 40' base loaded vertical with a 10' top hat

3. A 30' multi-wire-cage with a 20' flat top
