Hi JB and very good they are too!! The think is that you can get many turns into a a very short coild "length" then it you use two moveable "pies" you gat a nice tunable coil. There should be a pic of a simple one for TX on my site using clematis net and plant stakes as the radials, all you have to remember is to have an odd number of radials or spokes.

I wouldnt try flying one as a top load unless you have a very well behaved climate with mild winds, otherwise like the spiral they put a lot of wind load on the top.

It was great fun to resurect 1920s coil formats again (and learn some electronics in the process !!)
