NDB OF on 510 kHz in Norfolk, Nebraska had an unusual amount of company
last night. The neatest signal was from WE2XGR/2, who was sending a
waterfall image of Santa, his sleigh, and reindeer on 508 kHz. There was
also a HO, HO, HO, image from WD2XGR/3 on 507.3 kHz. The regular WSPR
transmissions of WD2XSH/37 were on 503.9 kHz. CW transmissions from
WD2XSH/16 on 506 kHz, WE2XGR/1 on 506.3 kHz, and WD2XSH/6 on 508.8 kHz
were seen along with PSK31 from WD2XSH/7 on 508.0 kHz. All in all, 7
experimental licensees could be seen on a 10 kHz span SDR-IQ display
centered on 505.8 kHz around 0300Z (12/26/09).
But wait, there's more. Tuning down the reliable beacon from Colorado,
WD2XSH/12, was in there on 495.5 kHz. as was chirpy WD2XSH/31 on 497 kHz.
Ended the night tuned to 186.85 kHz for lowfer SJ using QRSS30 ARGO for
maximum sensitivity. It came through with a couple of callsigns a bit
before local sunrise.
Don't know if anyone has been tuning for SIW but it got through an ice
storm here in fine shape and is still keying away on 185.185 kHz, QRSS30.
