Gang

Just got my Amrad E-Field probe repaired after being damaged by a
falling limb from one of my Pine trees early this Summer. Got the antenna
back into service earlier this evening. Looked at all the signals & stuff
below 500 KHz and thought I remembered it being better then it was today.
Went back outside and looked at the RG-58 feedline. It runs from the house,
then underground through a conduit about 80 feet to the shed where the
E-Field probe is mounted. The cable was in bad shape. It's over 7 years old
and from the conduit, the last 10 feet is stapled to the back of the shed in
the open exposed to the sun then runs up to the probe. I cut most of the bad
cable out and replaced it with new. WOW!! The E-Field probe hasn't worked
like this for many, many years. Almost all of my 60 Hz related noise is gone
and the signals rise up beautifully out of a quiet background. LORAN and all
of the NDB's are up by at least 10 dB!
Gary ... hope that you'll be back on the air with your beacon from EN52
fairly soon. I'm dying to give it a try!

John

That's funny stuff. Especially like #3. I can see the street sign ... 'Rise
time limit 10 msec, stictly enforced'.
