You have to understand the sheer ruthlessness with which Jay pursues those receptions. 

First, his antenna system literally sucks every bit of available signal from the whole southern New England area. The absence of other reports from this part of the country is ample evidence of this. Remember when the price of copper went through the roof a year or more ago? He singlehandedly created the shortage!

Second, anyone installing a light dimmer within a 20 mile radius of his QTH wakes up to find a bullet-hole through the window and a crater in the wall where the dimmer used to be. Subtle, eh?

Third, most towns have speed limit signs along their roads. Burlington, CT has rise-time signs. Nothing electrical faster than 10 milliseconds is permitted. The police cars have oscilloscopes, not radar guns.
