Hi Stan; Hope your doing well.
The setup is a Compaq desktop @ 2 GHz, The sound card I'm using
is a Yamaha DG-XP PCI, running under Win98SE, 16 bit @ 48K rate.
WinRAD is the software receiver part, and Audacity is the
recording software.
I am feeding the antenna into the Yamaha card, then it's digital,
WAVE from there so all these programs can work together thru a
2nd sound card. I don't even remember the name, it's new, but cheap
$ 9.99 and advertised sampling rates up to 96K, BUUUTTT !! you get
what you pay for, the card goes dead above 24 KHz, so it's only
sampling around 48K at best. It's the feed-thru card sending the
output to all the software. ** I tried it as a receiver, but it
was very noisy, not as sensitive to signals, and showed lots of
" fake " signals and lines.
*** Recommendation *** If anyone plans to try using a sound card
as a receiver setup; stick with the higher grade sound cards.
The El-Cheapies are just that, and performance will be not too
impressive.
