Michael. I know I keep banging on about this but dont assume like at HF that
adding more "radial" will give you some definite improvement. You really
need to measure the loss as you go (with a simple bridge). Otherwise even
with cheap wire (and is any aluminium of copper cheap these days !) you may
just be wasting money and effort. The only "guaranteed" improvements are if
your "radials" are longer tha 1/8 wavelength at LF ....that is a hell of a
lot of wire. I find in most cases that you very quickly get to "diminishing
returns" using wire ground radials....I think Bill A found the same thing.
An increase in antenna current is good but unless you can increase it by
about 50% (that will give a 3dB improvement) you will probably not notice it
on the received signal.
