That's what I have been using, #17 solid aluminum, 250' for around
$4.00. The only thing about the aluminum wire is that it tends to
deteriorate very rapidly. I had to replace a couple, and make splices
where some had broken where the " J " hooks held them to the ground.
Walking on them when in the yard tends to compound the problem.
However; it is cheap, and does work very well !!. I was at the
home depot a few days ago, and a 500' roll of insulated #14 solid THHN
was about $ 25.00 after taxes, not a bad price on that. And another
option to consider is the flat rotator cable. Radio Shack sells 300'
for around $ 20.00. A bulk roll of speaker cable would fit the bill
nicely. Lots of options. 73 all:
