I wonder if your Kenwood 570 requires modification like other Kenwood
 models.
To remove the attenuator on BC band and below?
Some one mybe Andy described those mods.

I use the FT-857. I live West of Atlanta and there are two nearby AM
 towers
that cause intermod when I use my simple MOSFET converter or my MOSFET
 active
antenna. But with a PA0RDT mini-whip I haven't had any problems with
 intermod
or desensing.

One thing I would probably do different (and will probably do at some
 point)
is use a low-pass filter on the active antenna. I'd really like to limit
 my
active antenna's frequency response to something like 60-500 kHz or so.
 Right
now it's usable up to above 10 MHz, so it lets everything in.

But the bottom line is that I'm very happy with the 857. It works better
 than
the Kenwood 570 I was using before and better than any of my other
 receivers
with a converter in front of them. Very stable and accurate. User
 interface
on the 857 leaves a lot to be desired, but I use computer control most of
 the
time.
