Andy,
Well, we let her run all night but wasn't able to copy anything either by
ear or via QRSS. I even stayed up until 4 AM staring at all the random noise
on the ARGO screen! The distance between us is a bit over 500 miles.
Conditions were somewhat strange last night. The band really sounded good.
I'm running the SDR-IQ receiver and I could see lots of NDB's above 200 KHz.
Funny thing was that there were storms up in the area, I would see flashes
of sheet lightning out the window and at that moment, there would be a
static crash in the radio. That would maybe be every 30 seconds or so, other
then that the band was quiet. Usually, when there's storms, it's a constant
barrage of static crashes. Last night I tried both a large multi turn loop
and my AMRAD E-Field probe. Over the last few years I've copied the
following folks:
NC - Stanfield, NC
WA - Andover, MA.
TH - Colts Neck, NJ
TAG - Holden, MA
LEK - Aitkin, MN
BRO - Duluth, MN
XMGR - Helena, AL (725 miles)
I also attempted COV in Oklahoma but had no luck. All of the stations
above are within 300 miles or so with the exception of Les, XMGR. I just
might have to wait for a night when conditions are better.
