Not much, Laurence.
- ZL6QH may posssibly get back on, but its not looking good long term
for receive, due to probable high levels of interference from the wind
farm that will be established at Quartz Hill.

There's still a regular 80mx net and associated round robin of test LF
transmissions on Thursday evenings but we have lost several since the
activity peak in the late 90's. I myself have still not got back on
regularly but hope to soon. I can speak from experience now, that
station rebuilds just dont happen overnight-even with the best will in
the world!

Apart from one or two, no one has anything beyond backyard antenn
systems now, and basically thats not a lot of use for international DX
from down here. We're 2000 km from the nearest neighbour-translate
that into e.g. the european scenario, and you see what the difference
is.

But there's still interest from a few key players and it may be that
DX capability from other sites round the country might appear soon.
Nothing that I am aware of (as yet) that would approach the antenna
setup at QH though. But there definitely are a few irons in fires.....

There has been no interest here in using more of the 130-190
spectrum as yet for anything local- which is a pity. I expect that its
just too hard for most these days. I expect it would make a nice local
ragchew band, using perhaps modified power line intercoms for tx and
the normal station HF rig for rx. Work the tower or hf dipole against
ground for an antenna and see just what coverage can be achieved.
It could be just like 80mx used to be -back before 2mx repeaters...
(But I digress....!)

Across the pond in VK they are still waiting for an LF allocation of
any sort- one or two experimental stations have been on in the past
and we had a lot of fun crossing the pond on LF back in the 90's, but
there's no one holding an experimental licence over there at
present-at least no one we know of. One or two over there have
expressed interest though, but its 'rx only' for the present, if
amateur calls are to be used.

500 was looking hopeful here 18 months back but seems to have died the
death somewhere inside the beauracracy-it's time that got prodded
along a bit I think. I must write something.
I expect trans-Pacific on 500 might be on, to Western US and Canada,
if suitable power levels can be used at either end, but thats still in
the melting pot both there and here.

Dave - is there any activity in the LF sector on ZL at the moment? A
station has been slated as on on line in from VK but nothing news wise
for the past few months.
