I use 'el cheapo' solid state oscillator 'chips' at times to drive a vacuum
tube 1750 meter final stage; however, I have run across some crystals for
that band on old surplus telco boards, appearantly used in some sort of
subcarrier service... many are for frequencies exactly half those needed for
the 160 - 190 kHz band so a single doubler after the oscillator works well.
The last 1750 meter transmitter I put together used one of the surplus
crystals, with a little bit of 'rubbering' to put it precisely where I
wanted it...

When I do use the 'chip' oscillator I get the necessary fot it DC by
rectifying and filtering the final amp tube's filament supply voltage.. be
careful about relative grounds tween this DC and the rest of the project
though!

For me it has never been a problem to run the filament and plate voltages up
the tower to the transmitter location, and some years ago I even found some
cable that had 3 unshielded conductors and a shielded conductor within the
same jacket... perfect if you want to for some reason send audio up to the
remotely mounted transmitter...
