Hi Peter,

Thanks.  I hadn't had the chance to read my November QST yet.  Looks 
interesting.

Many years ago I built a similar basic downconverter that used a 3.5 MHz 
crystal but I was never really happy with the performance. Might've been 
my antenna though. I've been thinking of playing around with a VLF-LF 
direct-conversion receiver using the Rick Campbell KK7B R2 design.  Has 
anyone tried that yet? I think you'd do OK using SBL-3's instead of 
SBL-1's in it for that range.

I hope Larry publishes the schematic for the I-Q detector.  And I'm not 
familiar with the DDS-60 but I've built various DDS VFO's using the AD9835 
and AD9850 chips. I believe I-Q LO signals can be gotten from the AD9851 
or 9854.
