Andy,
Welcome to the club. One solution is to put the beacon 130 miles away
like I did. But the property taxes on the camp in Maine are greater than
on my house in Massachusetts. Probably not a good approach just for radio...
A receive loop might help, but if the transmitter is clean, you might
want to focus on a narrow filter ahead of your receiver. A good approach
for 505 kHz is on Jay's site at: http://www.w1vd.com/500khzpreselector.html
If the transmitter puts out a lot of out-of-band crud, then this will
not completely solve the issue. But a simple class-D 1-watt rig like
you're using should be pretty clean except for key clicks.
